Susan Larson

Susan Larson has been singing, teaching and writing about Boston music scene for three decades. She holds a B.M. from Indiana University, and an M.M. from New England Conservatory.

Susan Larson has sung with the Boston Symphony, The Boston Opera Theater, and Cantata Singers, The American Repertory Theater, Collage and many other organizations in New England. She was a member of the Naumberg Award-winning Liederkreis Quartet, and sang for over 25 years with Boston's Emmanuel Music.

From 1980-1991 Ms. Larson worked in the Peter Sellars ensemble, performing in New York, Paris, Boston, Stuttgart, Berlin, Barcelona and Brussels. She performed in three opera films directed by Sellars, Her video performances in the roles of Cherubino ("Le Nozze di Figaro" and Fiordiligi (in the Theater der Welt-prize-winning production of "Cosi fan Tutte") as well as her Cleopatra in Handel's "Julius Caesar" can be seen on the London label.

Ms. Larson traveled to Moscow with The Opera Company of Boston, performing a leading role in Robert Di Domenica's "the Balcony" at the Bolshoi Opera. Ms. Larson has sung song recitals, operetta, musical comedy, early and contemporary music. She premiered works by Boston composers John Harbison, Yehudi Wyner and Peter Child.

Ms. Larson wrote music criticism and feature articles for The Boston Globe from 1994-2000. She wrote a column in the NATS Journal of Singing and has written recent articles for Classical Singer Magazine. Ms. Larson is currently teaching singing, giving lectures and masterclasses, and writing. She has written a novel and is hard at work on another.
